Social Media Builds Relationships

Social Media Han Solo believes that the key to being successful in the social media/digital space is all built around creating and cultivating new and existing relationships. What kind of relationship you build is dependent upon and unique to your own individual situation and should be tailored as such. Take Luke Skywalker and Princess Leia for example. He was all about cultivating the exact same thing I was trying to work on and simply copying what I was doing…until he realized she was his sister…then he had to step back and work on building a radically different relationship. Build the right relationship for you and not by following what others are doing. (Oh, and Luke…I totally won. Badow!! Slapchop!!)

Turnover and Social Media Culture

Want to create a social media culture in your workplace? Social Media Han Solo believes the first step to this is to control employee turnover. It will be virtually impossible to create individual digital champions of your brand if you can’t retain employees for long periods of time. Believing in the company vision and feeling like you have a place within that company is what drives employees to establish an emotional vested interest. If there is no shared long term vision and employees feeling like their involvement is crucial in achieving that plan, then they will always have one foot out the door.

The Emperor and Darth Vader have been trying for years to create an active social media culture for the Empire on the Death Star with little success. Why? The short term mindset of all the employees is the largest contributing factor. It must be extremely difficult to create a positive employee driven culture on the Death Star with the frequent massive turnover. Although in a way…I do feel partly responsible for that. Sorry guys.

Good Morning Tweet

Social Media Han Solo is not a fan of the obligatory good morning tweet…sure it seems simple enough and not really a big deal…but let’s face facts…it shouldn’t be the daily equivalent of punching in the time clock to start your day cruising thru the Republic Controlled Internet Galaxy.

Transparency and Full Disclosure

Social Media Han Solo believes that it is always in the best interest of a business to be open, honest, and transparent with their audience and customers by disclosing everything they possibly can up front before things spiral out of control. Kinda like that time we had that weapons malfunction while on the Death Star.  I responded with “we had a slight weapons malfunction, but uh… everything’s perfectly all right now. We’re fine. We’re all fine here now, thank you. How are you?”.  See what I did there? Not only did I let the Imperial soldiers know about the issue…I also verified everything was cool…and even asked how they were doing to show that I cared about them as individuals. Now that is how you raise the bar in Social Media folks.
