Social Media Day or Mashable Day

Happy Social Media Day…or…more accurately put “Happy Mashable Day”.  I’ve flown from one side of this galaxy to the other, and I’ve seen a lot of strange stuff, but I’ve never seen *anything* to make me believe that there’s one all-powerful Social Media Force controlling everything. ‘Cause no mystical blog controls *my* destiny. It’s all a lot of simple tricks and nonsense.

Things aren’t always as they appear.  Take ol R2-D2 as an example: Most of you think it’s this smart and cute little robot.  Sure he looks like that on the outside…but inside it’s really just Kenny Baker.  Before you jump on the Social Media Day bandwagon, stop and think about what is really going on at the root level…it’s one big Mashable brand building exercise.

Before I get a lot of push back, yes I do agree it’s a good excuse to get together and mingle with folks at parties and events in various cities…but weren’t you doing that already?  If not, well you were already missing the real point of all these digital tools before today.  At the very least I hope that “Mashable Day” will change that for you and your community going forward.

  1. I’ve read several good stuff here. Definitely worth bookmarking for revisiting. I surprise how much effort you put to make such a great informative website.

  3. But R2-D2/Kenny Baker falls in love with a fire hydrant on Sesame Street. Totally adorable. Just like Pete Cashmore!
